The University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Schools Prize is sponsored by the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney with additional support from Abbey’s Bookshop, Sydney and Microsoft.

Communicating scientific ideas and discoveries to the world is a tricky task. Each year, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki (Julius Sumner Miller Fellow at the University of Sydney) and Adam Spencer enlighten thousands of Australians with their National Sleek Geek Tour. The University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Schools Prize encourages students with a passion for science and for communicating ideas to tell a scientific story via a short video piece. The idea is to communicate a scientific concept(s) in a way that is accessible and entertaining to the public as a whole while painlessly increasing their science knowledge or, as the Sleek Geeks like to say, “Learn without noticing”. Entries are to take the form of a 1-3 minute video piece and a 50-word description of the video content. All you need is a handycam – it’s about the content and creativity, not the production values. In 2009, prizes will be offered in 3 categories – for University students, secondary school students and primary school students. Click here for more info about how to enter.

unreal. I have introduced your books to my two boys aged 10 & 5. I grew up listening to you on triple j when i was in highschool. I have great memories being inspired and having my love of science nurtured after school hours with you. then adam joined in the media presentations and he has really helped raise awareness that being different is awsome. This comp is perfectly timed and will truly hook my 5 yr old into science education forever. Thanks sleek geeks.
